Surprised so many US-based were able to avoid import duties. I guess for EU it is almost a, given to be receiving them though? Recently I had to pay them every time when buying from Japan.

In EU you might have to pay VAT in customs, even if the product category has 0% customs duties.

Depeding on the country, VAT could be somewhere around 19% of the price you paid.

They'll also charge you fees on top of that to do the job they're supposed to do. Basically paying to pay.

That also, completing the required data in the customs authority system, gathering the required documents, etc.

The thing is that this stuff is not done by people from the customs authority, but by intermediates, called "brokers".
