I should send this to the Quebec company selling a US$35k DAC (and many other audio manufacturers) 😏

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Very nice setup! I'm still researching mounts. I've managed to convincingly show my wife why the mount I'll need will, by necessity, be not inexpensive. If I take the 12" SCT out of the equation, I can go with a smaller and relatively less expensive mount, but I'm loathe to do so.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the third book. Last I heard even his editor has given up on seeing it, having not read a new word in years. The author has stated that as long as he's mentally unwell it's unlikely another word will be written. It's a shame because the first book especially...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

As long as it's instrumental music, I have no problem enjoying both words on the page and music in my ears. I don't lose my place while reading. If anything, music enhances my ability to focus.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I was a precocious reader. I was reading thick James Michener novels and Tolkien by the time I was 8. I can't thank my parents enough for instilling a love of reading in me and my brother. The best evenings are stormy weather, a good book, and headphones - attached to my main Schiit stack -...

Because I grew up in an at-the-time relatively isolated village, one wasn't exposed to much variety. To this day I cannot listen to Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Deep Purple Bob Seger, and a few others. The Clash, Gang of Four, Rank and File, The Blasters, X, Wall of Voodoo etc. were revelations.

Thanks! There are so many choices for mounts out there now, which is fantastic. I'll take a look at the MI-250 as another option.

On topic (what is the topic again...?): I went to a garage sale this weekend that a friend of mine was holding. He's a big kid at heart and his basement rec room is full of neat toys and gadgets, so I had some expectations. In particular, he had a lowish-end Polk Audio sub that would be perfect...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I hung one of my mother's quilts on the wall behind the couch at the prime listening position in my basement home theatre area. It made a huge difference, as did adding a rug. The floor is hardwood laminate over concrete.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

The Canadian province of Ontario is governed by corrupt and insanely incompetent morons (our premier used to deal hash and related products with his brother out of the trunk of their car). He campaigned on bringing the price of beer down to a "buck a bottle!" (how he could force that, no one...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I mentioned my inkling of a plan to my wife last evening: <slight look of horror> "You're not going to do THAT on a work night, are you? That's a vacation project!" Or a weekend project...🤔. Now, if I do this, I'll have no DAC that's comparable to the Gumby for my headphone stack in my bright...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I've been known to stop traffic on both lanes of a busy commuter road more than once to rescue an errant turtle who just HAD to get to the other side.

Ah, headphones. I have 4 decent pairs, but I'd also like to eventually go much higher end. I'd have to make a trek to Toronto to audition them, but even then It wouldn't be with my audio equipment unless I could arrange to take some of my stack with me. I wonder which YGGY iteration sounds best...

I haven't, and the Kara isn't on my radar. I wanted the Freya specifically for its tubey goodness, and it's nice to have the flexibility to switch modes, especially with some modern musical production that sounds more listenable (to my ears) sans tubes. Tube mode is engaged well over 90% of the...

What is this "sub out" of which you speak? In my world, one acquires and accumulates (gear for audio, astronomy, photography; books, animal beds, garden plants) until the walls explode or a larger accommodation is found. 🙃 Seriously, the Gumby utterly smokes destroys every D/S DAC I've tried...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

My Freya N Pre and Gumby will have to be pried from my cold, dead hands. Seriously, the Freya with certain tubes has been (to use an over-used cliché) game changing. I can't imagine a system without either the Freya or Gumby. I'm sorely tempted to move most of my headphone stack components down...

I was introduced to his "Spectrum" album in the 80's by a friend who also introduced me to Frank Zappa and John McLaughlin/Mahavishnu Orchestra. My home village, now a major golf destination, was fairly culturally isolated back in the day, especially musically. He came from New York City with...
